Ticking Doors (2006)
for Stereo Playback
Ticking Doors was written for a concert of electronic music at NYU. It is meant to be performed in total darkness and with additional sound diffusion if possible. The idea for this piece came during my hunt for cheap apartments upon arriving in New York City. I found this ad on the internet and decided to write a piece based on the description. This also happens to be the program note:
Room for Rent – Utilities Inc.
Single room available in old apartment. The lights and other fixtures are a bit noisy and there is an insect problem, but the common room is dimly lit so you’ll rarely notice the company. The doors creak and the faucet tends to drip.
