note for Piano Fantasy
The Piano Fantasy (1964) was composed under the spell of my first summer at Tanglewood, where post-war modernism then held sway. The piece features atonal hexachordal construction, disjunct textures, and inside-the-piano effects. I gave its premiere performance at my senior recital in 1965 at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music.
